SMTEK is a research-based company with in-depth knowledge and experience with color-changing materials. We focus on developing products to satisfy our customers’ demands to reduce damage to people from exposure to hazardous chemicals. We contribute to pioneering in new markets and expanding existing markets through new product development that allows workers to more effectively detect leakage of hazardous chemicals. Our main products are chemical leak detection tape, flange band, and flange guard. In this post, we will introduce safety spray shield.
1. Use of safety spray shield
Safety spray shields are important industrial safety products designed to safely dissipate high pressure spray of hazardous chemicals such as acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and are used to prevent worker injuries and equipment damage. In addition to preventing chemical spraying, our safety spray shields can be used to visually identify the leak site at an early stage using our various leak detection tapes. We offer two types of safety spray shield: flange cover (flange guard) and flange band.

2. Flange cover (flange guard) specification
The size of the flange cover is manufactured according to flange standards (ANSI, DIN, JIS), and the product specifications are as follows.

[Specification]
- Material: Clear PVC film + Chemical resistant fabric + PP rope + PTFE sewing thread
- Operating temperature: RT (Max. 80 oC)
※ Use with a leak detection tape

[Feature of flange cover]
Our flange covers are suitable for applications requiring simultaneous detection of splashes and chemical leaks. The main materials of the flange covers are clear PVC film and yellow chemical-resistant fabric, and they are secured to the flange using Velcro and PP rope. They can be used in conjunction with our various leak detection tapes listed above. For the detection of acid, alkali, and organic solvent leaks, the covers can be supplied with the tape already attached.

3. Flange band specification
The length of the flange band is manufactured according to the flange standards (ANSI, DIN, JIS) and pressure rating, and it is available in widths of 30, 40, and 50 mm. The flange band can be easily applied to a flange using Velcro fasteners sewn with Teflon thread at both ends.

[Specification]
- Use: spray shield + leak detection
- Material: Fluorinated film + Chemical detection layer
- Detectable chemicals: Acids & alkalis
- Operating temperature: RT (Max. 80 oC)
